Deadlines
Fall 2023: September 1
Spring 2024: February 1

Requesting Coverage

Effective Fall 2022, Kaiser Health Plan enrollment will be administered by USF Human Resources. Eligible adjuncts should follow these instructions to request coverage:

  • Email jvuong2@usfca.edu prior to the deadline listed above

  • Include name, email, department/school, request date, and numbers of units taught at USF

HR will be in touch to confirm your request and provide any further clarifications. While not required, it is advised that you cc: officers@usfptfa.org when making your request.

Kaiser health coverage begins the first of the month following the enrollment deadline - October 1st for fall semester enrollees, March 1st for spring semester enrollees.

IMPORTANT: You must receive paychecks during SIX specific months to cover your contribution to your health care coverage. Kaiser funds are automatically deducted from the two paychecks issued each month in October, November, December, March, April, and May. Each pay period covers your contribution for one month of health care coverage.

  • For existing/ongoing Kaiser participants, you pay for the six months spanning September-February with the six payments made October through December. You pay for coverage March-August with the six payments made March-May.

  • For newly enrolled Kaiser participants (i.e. enrolling for the first time or re-enrolling in Kaiser) you pay for the five months spanning October-February with the five payments made October through December. You pay for coverage March-August with the six payments made March-May.

The amount you make during these pay periods must be sufficient to cover the Kaiser deduction. If you will not be paid during the required pay periods, you may contact your Dean or your school’s business manager to make arrangements to alter your pay schedule to accommodate your health care coverage.

COSTS (2023):
One party - $135/pay period

Two party - $351/pay period

Three + party - $448/pay period

Continuation of Coverage:
Once you have signed up for Kaiser, your coverage will continue unless you elect to discontinue it or you are not on the schedule for a semester.

If you take a leave of absence or do not earn enough to cover the premiums, you will be eligible for COBRA.

Other Health Care Options:

SF Healthcare Security Ordinance (SFHCSO)

The SFHCSO is a requirement for employers with 20+ employees to spend a certain amount per hour toward health care for their employees who work at least 8 hours per week in San Francisco.  To learn more about the Ordinance, go to http://sfgsa.org/index.aspx?page=418
