Sr. Vicky Siu Award for Outstanding
Contributions and Service

Award applications may be submitted here: https://gnosis.usfca.edu/awards/

The title pretty much describes the award, which honors adjunct faculty who have volunteered to organize workshops, performances, lectures, or other opportunities for students at USF — beyond the responsibilities of their teaching position. Criteria for selection are:

  • completion of a minimum of 16 units

  • evidence over a period of time at USF of extraordinary dedication to students

  • the demonstrated benefits for students of the applicant’s service activities

The committee's decision will be based on the quality (not the quantity) of the materials submitted by the candidate. The materials should include only achievements at USF (not from other institutions). The recipient will receive a framed certificate and a $2000.00 cash award. Their name will also be placed in the May commencement program.

Nominators

If you are nominating an adjunct professor for this award, YOU must notify the nominee (the committee will not notify nominees). It is recommended that nominators inform nominees of your intent to nominate no later than February 29th, to provide them with enough time to compile their supporting materials for submission by the March 25th deadline.

Application

The following materials will be required in the online submission through gnosis, and will be used in determining the award recipients. More than one file may be submitted in each field, but at least two files must be submitted in the final field for letters of recommendation.

  • Letter of Nomination (self-nomination or nomination from a superior or colleague at USF). Only one nomination letter per application.

    • The letter of nomination should be no longer than two pages and must include the following information:

      • the nominee’s name, email address, telephone number, department, and college

      • why the nominee is deserving in light of the specific award criteria

      • your name(s) and contact information, if you are nominating an adjunct professor

      • self-nominations are accepted

  • Curriculum Vitae

  • Statement of Service: A letter describing your contribution to the USF Community, including who was served by this activity and how those served benefited from your contribution. Indicate how long you have served the university and cite the contributions you have made over time. Uncompensated service is appropriate to include. Your statement should address how you assessed the benefits or success of your contribution for the students. For example: How many people participated or attended? What were the goals for the projects or events? You might also include supporting materials such as event announcements, programs, or information that was distributed. Your letter might discuss the following:

    • How you taught a valuable skill by setting up workshops for students or the larger USF community

    • How you arranged and conducted a lecture, forum, or service event on campus

    • How you contributed by advising a student group or organization

  • Letters of Recommendation: Relevant letters or testimonials from at least two people other than students (colleagues or administrators from USF only). Testimonials from students are encouraged, with particular weight given to unsolicited testimonials (cards, letters, e-mail, etc.)
