Spring 2024 Elections

Approximately 600 members make up the USF Part-Time Faculty Association each semester. As a member, you can nominate, run, and vote in the 2022 Elections this Spring. There are four (4) seats on the Executive Committee and seven (7) on the Policy Board. 

You may nominate yourself or another eligible USF-PTFA member to any position. Two-year terms begin on June 1, 2024.

Run

Eligibility

Candidates for all positions must have completed at least two semesters of teaching at USF by December 31, 2023.

Anyone wishing to run for office must also be an active USF-PTFA member. All part-time faculty who are teaching this semester are automatically active members. 

Part-time faculty who are not teaching this semester and wish to run for office must confirm that they opted in to current membership by February 22, 2022. 

If you are not teaching this semester, you may still vote by submitting this continue membership form.

Guidelines and Nominations

Nominations are open from March 11 to March 18 at 5pm

  • Members may self nominate or nominate other PTFA members for all Policy Board positions. College/School representatives must teach in the college/school they seek to represent.

  • Nominations may be submitted electronically or at a membership meeting, usually at least three (3) weeks before elections.

Campaigns
Candidates may write short, optional platform statements which will be included on the website and distributed prior to final ballot issuance.

Guidelines

  • Elections will be held every two years.

  • The Policy Board shall create an elections committee of between 2-3 PTFA members.

Voting

The Elections Committee will notify all eligible voting members electronically and via U.S. Mail on a schedule outlined in the PTFA constitution.

Policy Board Officers and Representatives

Eleven positions on the Policy Board are open for nominations and election:  

Four (4) officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer

Seven (7) Representatives:
1 At-Large
3 College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) 
1 School of Education (SOE)
1 School of Management (SOM)
1 School of Nursing and Health Professions (SONHP).  

Adjuncts may serve from the main campus or branch campuses.


STIPEND

  • Maximum annual stipends for officers and representatives are set by the membership. The schedule below was approved in December 2018. Each "unit" pay is at the current non-PHP rate.

    • In Spring 2024, the Non-PHP Unit Value = $2185.

    • The Policy Board may reduce the stipend at the start of a semester to address financial exigencies.

    • Union funds are used to compensate the president at the rate of 8.5 units per year. The vice-president, treasurer, and secretary are compensated at 8 units per year. All policy board members receive 1-unit of compensation per year.

  • DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The duties of Policy Board officers and representatives of the Part Time Faculty Association are described in Articles VII and VIII of the USFFA-PT Election Guidelines in the By-Laws

    • Policy Board members also agree to the Board Member Agreement, adopted by the Policy Board in August 2017.

  • TIME INVOLVED:

    • Time commitment varies:

      • The president's position involves time similar to two (2) 4-unit classes per semester; less during summer and intersession.

      • Members of the Negotiating Team include the officers (Executive Committee of the Policy Board) and may include some representatives. Time involved is approximately four hours per meeting, with about 2 to 4 meetings per month scheduled around availability.

        • Work on the Negotiating Team may involve an additional stipend.

      • A Representative's position might involve the equivalent of 1/4 to 1/2 of a 4-unit class per semester.

    • Representatives can expect monthly PB meetings of 2 hours; monthly committee work of 2 hours.
